He was reportedly the highest paid country concert star between 1969 and 1971. In 1973 awarded "Entertainer of the Year" by the Country Music Association. In 1951 and 1952 he was the winner of the U.S. National Banjo championships.Joined the Grand Ol' Opry in 1987.Had a string of hits from the early-1960s to the early-1980s, most notably "Come Live With Me" (No. 1 on Billboard magazine's country singles chart in 1973) and "Yesterday When I Was Young" (a Billboard top 10 country hit in 1969).
