Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
In 1962 while watching a bullfight in Tijuana, Mexico, Jewish trumpeter and A&M Records co-founder Herb Alpert was inspired to capture the excitement and mariachi horn section he experienced at the bullring. Adapting a song titled Twinkle Star, Alpert added trumpet and crowd noises and renamed it The Lonely Bull. Alpert's musical accomplishments include five number one hits, 28 albums on the Billboard charts, eightGrammy Awards, fourteen Platinum albums and fifteen Gold albums.[1] As of 1996, Alpert had sold 72 million albums worldwide.[2][3][4] Alpert is the only recording artist to hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart as both an instrumentalist ("Rise", 1979) and vocalist (" This Guy's in Love With You", 1968)
